Après avoir immigré du Danemark vers les U.S.A. dans les années 1950, Ib Penick rencontra Waldo Hunt en Californie.
Parallèlement à ce que faisait Kubasta à Prague à la même époque, les deux hommes particpèrent activement à ce deuxième âge d’or du livre animé (le premier ayant eu lieu entre les deux guerres mondiales, le troisième a commencé en 2003 — théorie Cligne Cligne).
De tous les ingénieurs papiers qui travaillèrent avec M. Hunt, l’ami Ib est probablement un des plus prolifiques.
Notons au passage que Waldo Hunt est l’inventeur du terme.
On peut noter parmi ses créations des livres de Sesame Street, des documentaires historiques sur les moyens de transport motorisés, mais surtout le fameux Dwindling Party d’Edward Gorey.
